Author Guidelines

Heritage of Nusantara is a special journal for the studies of Nusantara Heritage. Nusantara meant in this journal is the areas covering Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunai, Southern Part of Thailand (Patani), Timor Leste dan Southern Part of the Philipines (Sulu).

Heritage of Nusantara is a peer reviewed journal using bilingual (English and Arabic). The aims of the journal is to introduce the richness of the Heritage of Nusantara in particular and to show its relations as well as its contributions to the world heritage in general by publishing the research papers, articles and books review concerned. It is intended to give a better and wider outlook understanding to the readers concerning the Heritage of Nusantara. Further, it is also to offer offer a wide variety of analysis on how to preserve and develop the richness of the Heritage of Nusantara.

Therefore, the Journal welcomes the papers from the scholars and expert from all disciplines of humanity, social sciences and religious studies related to the aims of the Journal. 

The journal requires the article being submitted is to be original based on academic works (academic writing and research). In addition to that, the article submitted never been published before in any journal or is being reviewed for possible publication in certain time in other journal. All the articles submitted will be reviewed by certain editors, editorial board as well as blind reviewers appointed by the journal. Any article does not meet the requirement of the guidelines will not be considered and will be declined.

The number of the words of the article is between 10000 to 15.000 words at length. References, tables, figures, appendices and notes are included in those words. As for the abstract, it must not exceed from 150 words with 5 key words. The articles with quotations and passages from local or foreign language should be translated into English. Electronic submissions are welcome and should be sent to mail journal.

Technical writing of the Journal is following the IMRAD (Introduction, Method, Result And Discussion). Detail technical writing guideline is as follow:


  1. Title is supposed to be specific not too general and clear.
  2. Title should reflect the problem, there is the gap between Das Sein (reality) and Das sollen (The idealized one). The relations of two variables that can be questioned thus should exist in the title. For example:  Islamic education and the Development of Islamic preaching in Indonesia. It means that Islamic education has a tight relations to the development of Islamic preaching in Indonesia. It is because if Islamic education is not good, it will give an impact on the development of Islamic preaching in Indonesia. The reality (Das sein) is that Islamic education is still far from being hoped. Whereas das sollen or the ideal one is the condition that should be achieved. This main title still broad but has a specific character. However to make it more specific and focus, the case should be mentioned in the sub title for example: Islamic education and the Development of Islamic preaching in Indonesia (Learning or Tracing the teachings Method in  Islamic Education from the manuscript of Tahzibul Akhlak of Ibn Miskawayh). The specific sub title will explain, why it is important to trace the method of teaching through this manuscript in relations to the Islamic education at the present which is considered to be back down in order to get the ideal one namely the development of Islamic preaching in Indonesia.


Name of writer

Name of writer should be put under the title with his or her affiliation and email address.


Abstract is a summary of the paper which consists of Research/paper thesis statement, research approach, theory in the research (if any) method and conclusion. Abstract must be in accordance with the content of paper/writing. Abstract should also have key words.



  1. Introduction gives a brief description of the background of research supported by accurate data. In this section, data represent the empirical findings or facts.
  2. Introduction describes research questions and explains the significance of the writing in relations to previous writing or research. In this part the writer should explain the position of his or her writing among the previous writing.
  3. Introduction explains the significance of theory and method being used in the writing. The writer can choose to explain both from deductive to inductive or vice versa.
  4. The writer should use Logic of language as the conjunction of the writing in order to make a coherence of writing.



  1. The writer should explain clearly the method being used in the writing/paper/research.
  2. The writer should explain the paradigm of the study and its significance with the problem being analysed.
  3. The writer should explain the approach being used in the writing for example historical approach, philological approach, sociological approach and so on plus its significance in the analysis.



  1. The writer should describe the findings (the problems) based on the accurate data and its impact on the study. In this section, the writer just describe the data without analysis but with accurate data.
  2.  Display the Tables and pictures if any.
  3. The writer should state his or her findings clearly and explain the significance of the result with the study.


And Discussion:

  1. The writer should gives the title of the discussion, not only discussion in the big title. If the writer put the words discussion as the main title in this section, he or she should give sub title of the discussion
  2. The writer restates a brief of the findings of research in other words in order not to fall into redundancy in sentences. Menjawab pertanyaan penelitian pada pendahuluan
  3. The writer explains  the relations of the findings with the research question
  4. The writer explains the limitation of study in order to focus on the study
  5. The writer can choose the explanation or discussion from general to specific or vice versa (deductive to inductive or vice versa.
  6. The writer should give sub title in order to make his or her discussion has a logical structure. The aim is that the findings can be discussed cohesively and can be analysed in depth systematically and accurately
  7. The writer should pay a great attention to conjunction as  logical language in the writing which relates one idea to another to be understandable.



Conclusion explains in brief and accurate the relevance of many related variables in the study to come to a good conclusion as the last step of the writing.


Acknowledgment can be written (if any) to show that in the process of the writing, the writer has been helped by some people. This is also as an ethics in writing to acknowledge people services in the study such as conducting in depth interview, doing observation, and gathering information. 

Suggestion and Recommendation:

Suggestion and Recommendation are addressed to some authoritative institutions related to the study in order that the message can be effectively implemented.


References will show some sources the writer uses. It is from the sources that the depth of the study can be identified. Therefore, the sources will be related to Primary and Secondary sources that become the foundation of argument of the writer to build his or her analysis. It is from the references used by the writer that the reader will know the strength and weaknesses of the article. Please use Reference Manager Applications like EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc.


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

If you are employed and prepared the article on a subject within the scope of your employment, the copyright in the article belongs to your employer as a work-for-hire.
